The day after Science Sleuths: Invasive Species, my son came running in, "Mom, I found some garlic mustard!" My younger one kept calling it milkweed, but we explored the name garlic mustard. This is just our second spring in this house. Last year we pulled this pest several times, but it seems to come back. I was told the seed can stay dormant for several years and sprout up again. Now is a great time to pull it and pulling is generally the most effective way to get rid of it. Garlic mustard is easy to pull. Be sure to get the root, too. This site talks about how noxious the plant really is!
So, we took a break from early afternoon activities to go pull weeds. There are opportunities to pull garlic mustard in your own backyard and at several area natural spaces. Join the crusade!
