Michiana Summer Guides 2014

Michiana Summer Guides 2014

Oh, what do you do in the summer time, when all the world is green? This is an updated post with links for 2014. There are many great places to visit in the Michiana area. The parks departments of nearby towns and cities operate special programs in the summer. Here are links to the various towns and a few highlights that our family would like to check out!

Mishawaka
Looking at the map, there are several parks that wrap around the St. Joseph River--I think it's really neat they have preserved some of these semi natural areas for public use. There is also information about community gardens, various FREE classes for children and families (self-defense, healthy living, tai chi, Zumba, baton twirling and more!), summer day camps, movie nights, Summerfest, Rennaisance Festival, golfing, and more! The Summerfest on June 28th looks like fun! The Lorax will also play on August 9th at the Logan Center. Here is their Summer Program Guide.

South Bend
Several free kids' activities in the parks, Family Passport to Play, pools, East Race Waterway, Rum Village Nature Campsand lots of sports activities. This guide goes into fall--can I already plan for the fun activities this far ahead? The splash pad at Potawatomi Park looks fun! Here is their calendar of events.

Elkhart
Splash pads, McNaughton Spray park, Ideal Beach, pools and swimming lessons, summer day camps, Rhapsody in Green (June 13-15), community gardens, summer concert series and more! Pierre Moran pool has special adaptive equipment for individuals with disabilities and a zero depth entry to the pool for staying safe with the littles! This would be helpful with the various ages of kids we have and we're looking for swimming lessons! Here is their Summer Program Guide.

Goshen
Reith Interpretive Center (lots of natural aspects and program possibilities!), Fishing Derby (June 14), Pumpkinvine Bike Ride (June 21) , Tryathlon (July 12), sports and other camps/activities, canoe and kayak rentals, tree hikes, trails, summer lunch programs, and more! I want to check out Fiddler Pond in more depth! Here is there Summer Program Guide.

Looking forward to summer! Let us know your top activity picks!
